POSITION DESCRIPTION
Class Title: Advocate / Driver
GENERAL PURPOSE
Provides safe transportation with professional and compassionate, non-emergency care to our customers. Maintains all equipment, vehicles, and facilities
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the general supervision of a Murphy Medical Transport Operations Manager
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
May assist to coordinate, instruct, evaluate or supervise the work of new employees or other part-time personnel, as assigned.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Reports to assigned shifts in proper uniform on time and remains on-duty and in proper uniform until the shift has officially ended. This includes staying additional time if still actively involved in the transfer of customer or patient.
Ensures a complete understanding of all Murphy Medical Transport policies and procedures.
Responds to non-emergency transfers using appropriate care and caution in accordance with California law, company policy, and the principles of safe vehicle operations.
Appropriately and safely delivers the patient to the assigned destination, or in the case of an emergency to the nearest most appropriate medical facility.
Ensures that the vehicle and equipment is ready for use at the beginning of the shift and after every call. This includes: appropriate cleaning and disinfecting of the interior and exterior of the vehicle; appropriate cleaning and disinfecting of equipment; inspecting; restocking and completing daily checklists of the vehicle and equipment; and performing routine maintenance.
Performs daily inspections of their base and/or station for cleanliness. Then performs the appropriate housekeeping duties to ensure their living quarters are clean, free from clutter and sanitary at all times.
Serve as an advocate for our customers, acting in their best interest while maintaining a professional manner that reflects the higher standards of Murphy Medical Transport and the professional reputation of all Murphy Medical Transport employees.
Acts at all times with his/her personal safety in mind, as well as the safety of his/her partner, our customer and their family/caregiver, bystanders, and any other persons present.
Accompanies our customer to their destination, continuing to provide appropriate assistance and client advocacy until the responsibility for the patient has been transferred to an appropriate medical professional or alternate care provider, which may be the customer themselves.
Is familiar with the infection control policies and procedures utilized by Murphy Medical Transport, and appropriately utilizes universal precautions and body substance isolation while working with our customers.
Performs duties related to public relations and community education programs sponsored by Murphy Medical Transport.
Performs duties related to the continuing improvement and development of Murphy Medical Transport.
Provides Murphy Medical Transport with a current copy of their motor vehicle drivers license.
Performs other duties as directed by management.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
(A) High school diploma or GED equivalent
(B) Valid California driver’s license with acceptable driving record
(C) Must meet minimum age requirements

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must be able to walk long distances, bend, kneel, lift, carry, push and pull all related equipment and supplies. Lift and assist persons of all shapes and sizes.
